WHY KENYA?
If you are looking for an authetic African experience, Kenya is the place for you. Africa remains one the last outposts of raw adventure; a refuge from the modern world. Going on safari in Africa is most definitely an unforgettable experience for the senses with an array of wild life and spectacular scenery. You will have the chance to glimpse rare and endangered species in their natural habitat, and get up close and personal to the power and beauty of wild animals watching their communication and behaviours and listening to their sounds. Kenya has recently been voted world number one safari destination in all of Africa once again.
A safari allows you to capture photographs and memories that will last a lifetime. With endless plains that are full of wildlife, rolling hills, lush mountains, beautiful lakes, and a coastline that will leave you speechless, Kenya was made to explore!
You either get the point of Africa or you don't.
What draws me back year after year is that it is like seeing the world with the lid off. (A. A. Gill)
Kenya is like a mosaic of different kinds of territory and ecosystems, from the coastal zone to the savanna, and from vast highland plateaus to rugged mountain chains, to the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria. Kenya is a fantastic and much-loved tourist destination.
It has unique cultures, world class hotels, and smiling faces and home to one of the few tribes in the world that still live by their culture. Kenya has many stunningly beautiful freshwater lakes teaming with wildlife. All wild animals are protected in Kenya and Tanzania.
The Massai Mara National Reserve is one of the most unforgettable experiences for visitors to Kenya: a territory home to the Massai, a people who live in harmony with the so-called Big Five: lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffaloes. The Serengeti in Tanzania Park is world-famous for one of Nature’s most spectacular events: the migration of the wildebeest, when thousands and thousands of animals migrate from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Massai Mara Kenya in autumn and vice versa in spring.
For those who love the sea, the coastal zone – especially near Mombasa – offers superb beaches and warm tropical waters swarming with colourful fish. Here swimmers can encounter crustaceans and invertebrates near the coral reef, and dolphins and turtles and even swim with sharks in their natural habitat.
WHEN TO TRAVEL?
Generally the best months to visit are the dry seasons, which are January to March and June to September. There is no surface water created by rains that disperse the animals, and vegetation is light. At these times the animals congregate around the remaining rivers and waterholes. Visiting during the dry season also means fewer mosquitos. In April and May many safari lodges close during the ‘long rain’ season.
You can still travel in the wet season, however, getting around at this time can be difficult due to tracks turning to mud, and animals are not in concentrated areas. In October and November ‘short rains’ occur—which are short bursts of rain intermittently throughout the day..
The best season to visit Kenya's Maasai Mara and Tanzania's Serengeti is during the migration, which starts as early as July and can continue through November with August-October being the best months; but can also be inundated with tourists wanting to see the migration. Closer to the end of May, when the rains lesson, the migration moves north and/or into the western passageway, and the river crossings usually happen in July.
Amid the months of August and October, the herds are at the Mara River in the far northern Serengeti, and during these months they cross backward and forward, in and out of Kenya, drawn by local rain showers. In November, when the rain clouds usually gather to green the south, they again cross the Mara, passing through the eastern Serengeti to return to the short-grass plains of the southern Serengeti in December. High season on the Kenyan and Tanzanian coasts is November to February, when it's a popular winter sun destination from the Northern Hemisphere.
