Surprise Tours & Safaris is a new small tour company created to provide clients with an insight to the Kenya that the locals love and want to share. We have been doing safaris for over 15 years, however now we have registered our own company.
Surprise Tours & Safararis is solely set up to contribute and assist and support Umoja Children's Village Ukunda, Kenya as part of the project's sustainability model, with 100% of net profit generated from safaris going directly to the Umoja Project to assist in supporting our children.
Our safaris are a guide only, providing information on what most clients desire, and depart from either Mombasa or Nairobi; however, all safaris and tours can be organised to suit your own individual needs.
Over the past 10 years we have taken 134 volunteers to work at the Umoja Project which is set on 15 acres. All of our volunteers have done safaris with us, as well as many, many more clients who we have been contracted to take on safaris during the past 15+ years from varying parts of the world.
Patrick is the Manager & Director of Surprise Tours & Safaris
Patrick has been a well known and respected safari tour guide and driver on the south coast of Kenya for 14 years. His knowledge of each and every safari park and its animals is astounding to say the least. Patrick has a wonderful sense of humour and you'll rarely see him not smiling. Everyone who meets Patrick cannot help but warm to him.
Patrick barely completed primary school due to poverty, however he has educated himself to speak English and German fluently as well as his 2 native languages.
Not only that: Patrick was given the opportunity to manage Umoja Children's Village, Kenya and has done that as well as safari driving for over 15+ years.
You know you will be safe and happy in Patrick's hands and his handpicked counterparts, giving you experiences large tour companies do not give you, based on his knowledge, his experience and his love of his country, which is always full of surprises.
Cathy is an Australian mostly living in Australia. She has done more safaris than you can imagine, being tour guide to all the volunteers she takes to the Umoja Project. She founded Umoja Children's Village (Australian arm Umoja Orphanage Kenya), in 2011, starting from nothing but a dream, purchasing 15 acres of land to begin her dream and the rest is history.
It came to fruition in 2016 when the first children were rescued and brought to their new family home. The ultimate goal is to reunite children with family. Over the years Cathy has worked diligently to increase sustainabilty for the project, and the time has come to start our own safari company to add extra support the project.
Cathy is a mother, grandmother, Rotarian, schoolteacher and passionate about her rescued children and her other love - Kenya, it's landscapes and wild animals. She has been to all safari parks in Kenya and loves each and every one of them. In fact you will hear her say she does not prefer one over the other as they are so different in landscape and the animals you sight.
All volunteers who come to the Umoja Project in Kenya have put Patrick & Cathy in their hands for an incredible volunteering and safari experience.
Cathy is a partner and the founder of Surprise Tours & Safaris Ltd, which are always full of surprises.
